This one-day symposium will discuss the attributes and characteristics of Metros around the world, with emphasis on the type of service they can provide, their ability to integrate with other transport routes and modes, integration of land use, population density and city size, and how mass transit technologies of a Metro system meet the requirements of city dwellers for efficient travel. The proposition that a Metro system is a fundamental part of large and mega-city planning will also be explored.
Sessions will cover the following topics:
- What is a Metro and what are its attributes
- Sydney - Better urban outcomes and reinventing Sydney
- Case studies from Hong Kong, Singapore, Barcelona, Paris and Perth
- Panel discussion sessions and a wrap up session at the conclusion.
