Following each CORE, the Conference on Rail Engineering, which is being held in Wellington NZ, a speaking tour is undertaken by a Keynote Speaker.
This year, the Eminent Speaker is Professor Andrew McNaughton - Chief Engineer of High Speed Two Ltd and Special Professor of Rail Engineering at Nottingham University UK:

Andrew is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineers, a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and Past President of the Permanent Way Institution. In Europe, he is Vice Chairman of the Transport Advisory Group to the EU Commission, Chairman of the International Union of Railways (UIC) Infrastructure Forum and Chairman of the European Rail Research Advisory Council. |

In Andrew’s presentation, he will explore the market-led demands of the 21st Century for transport paying particular attention to
- long distance
- regional
- urban passenger mobility
- and freight logistics
and the way we will need to develop rail to become the most successful transport mode of the future.
As well as the technology, he will look at the role of the operators and maintainers of the future system and especially the special place and responsibility of Rail Engineers in the new order.
