QLD Chapter - Gold Coast Rapid Transit Project

Pradeep Mohan of Bombardier Transportation will give an overview of the Gold Coast Light Rail System currently under construction. The presentation will include an overview of stage one of the project, the proposed light rail vehicles, and the signalling and communication systems to be used.

QLD Chapter – Axle Counters – Dispelling the Myths and Demonstrating the Benefits

Dwayne Allan, Engineering Manager Siemens Australia will define the requirements of a track vacancy detection system explaining the difference between track circuits and axle counters. Dwayne will then dispel the myths about axle counters and explain the advantages they have over track circuits.

NSW Chapter - Urbanisation, Transport and Learnings for Sydney

David Caldwell, Urban Transport Engineer, will speak about the underlying purpose of rail transport as against a freeway. he will discuss the relationship between urban living and transport. A key part of the presentation will be a 1958 short film by General Electric explaining the problems with car-based urbanisation.
