Our April meeting features Rob Lennox, Robert Tatton-Jones and Steve Gelagin from AECOM presenting on the development of a new mining railway at an elevation of 4,500m in West Papua.
The presentation will cover the transport and mining operations, rail infrastructure design, rollingstock procurement and some of the challenges involved in developing a new railway in a remote area.

This half day Seminar is designed for people interested in reviewing the big picture and the role rail transport should play in the future. It will examine train technologies, the range of speeds that are available, track design and development and the systems needed to ensure safe operation and integration. Securing corridors and selecting appropriate train speeds, will be crucial in the long term development of Australia’s transport system.

Dr Mark Raiss of URS/Scott Wilson will introduce the Crossrail scheme, Europe’s single largest infrastructure project with a current budget of £14.5bn. Mark will explain the history of Crossrail’s development, describe what it entails, the service it will provide and the funding mechanisms to achieve those ends.
